Our Campaigns

Agency Workers Directive

One of the main principles underpinning the Agency Workers Directive (AWD) is to give temporary agency workers equal treatment after 12 weeks. This will mean that temporary workers will need to be paid the same and have the same access to holidays, rest breaks, overtime and public holidays.

Welfare Reform & Jobcentre Plus

A relationship already exists between Jobcentre Plus and the recruitment industry. Jobcentre Plus is often a first port of call for jobseekers. It is estimated that 40% of jobs currently advertised in Jobcentres are placed there by recruitment agencies.

Recruitment 2020 - Working With Employers

The future of recruitment is vital to everyone. It’s key to the REC as our industry supports access to employment for millions every year. It is our duty to reflect the hard work and ethical stance of REC recruiters to their clients, and in turn to help clients navigate their journey to “best practice” recruitment partnerships.

Promoting Diversity and Equality in the recruitment industry

Over the next coming years, demographic changes will mean that the workforce is set to become far more diverse, reflecting trends towards an ageing population, greater ethnic diversity and more women taking up positions in paid work.

VAT staff hire concession

Review of the VAT staff hire concesssion This year’s Budget announcement included the withdrawal of the VAT staff hire concession and business brief arrangement from 1st April 2009. The REC believes that the true cost of the withdrawal of the concession will be much higher than the Treasury estimates. A full campaign briefing is available for members.

Professionalising the Recruitment Industry

The REC is at the forefront of a sustained campaign to work alongside its members to professionalise the recruitment industry. The benefits of this are apparent to all and include higher standards, highly skilled recruiters and a higher profile with Government.
